Madison Bull - reworked

I've recently been reworking some older pieces that I still have around. I've learned a lot over the last year or so and I feel a lot more conident in my technique. I don't like to show work that I'm no longer satisfied with so reworking can sometimes be a better option than just throwing them out.

With this piece I decided to make some pretty major changes including re-stretching the canvas in a smaller size. This allowed me to slightly adjust the composition in a way I feel favors the piece. I also made a lot of changes to the overall light in the piece and added quite a bit of texture. The end result, I think, is a better piece that is much more representative of what I experienced when I saw the idea in person.

Here is the before....

And after.....

Bridger Mountains Studio Study

I'm preparing to start a new panoramic piece of the Bridger Mountains in Bridger Canyon near Bozeman. I took a bunch of photos and did a plein air study for the piece last summer and now I'm finally getting around to doing the painting. Since it has been so long since I did the plein air study, I decided to do another small studio study for the painting before beginning the larger piece. I used a combination of photos and the other study to get the colors and values to what I felt represented reality. Here's a photo of the finished product. Stay tuned for the larger piece, which should be finished next month.
