National Museum of Wildlife Art & Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center

Last weekend I had a chance to make a short trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Jackson is a beautiful place to visit at anytime of year and it's a great place to view wildlife, amazing landscapes and all types of art. The weather was pretty bad so I didn't have a chance to do as much photography as I would have liked, but I did spend some time at the National Museum of Wildlife Art. The museum is a must for anyone who enjoys wildlife art; their collection is extraordinary. It was great to see original paintings by some of my favorite wildlife artists including Carl Rungius, Tucker Smith, Ken Carlson, and Bob Kuhn. The visit was very inspirational but also very humbling.

On the way back to Bozeman on Sunday we stopped in at the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone. I prefer to use reference photos that I've taken in the wild for a majority of my wildlife paintings but, even around Yellowstone, grizzlies and wolves can be very elusive - not to mention dangerous. Since I can't afford a 600mm lens, it's really nice to have places to observe/photograph these predators in up close in captivity. Here are a couple of photos....
